TBF Coaches’ Commission charts new course for Basketball Development

The Coaches’ Commission of the Tanzania Basketball Federation (TBF) has held a special meeting to deliberate on key issues aimed at accelerating the growth of basketball in the country.

The meeting, chaired by TBF Coaches’ Commissioner Robert Manyerere, took place on June 30, 2025, at Chinangali Park grounds in Dodoma and focused on three core agendas.

According to Manyerere, the first agenda involved devising strategies to strengthen the development of basketball both nationally and internationally. “Our goal is to ensure basketball in Tanzania grows in a sustainable and competitive manner,” he said.

The second item on the agenda was the review of the selection criteria for the Best Coach of the 2025 CRDB Bank Taifa Cup tournament.

The Commission agreed that winning the tournament should not be the sole determinant. “A coach who leads their team to the semi-finals can also be recognized based on specific performance benchmarks agreed upon in the meeting,” Manyerere explained.

The third agenda focused on capacity building. Manyerere extended an open invitation to all individuals interested in pursuing basketball coaching whether beginners or professionals to enroll in both national and international coaching courses.

“We encourage passionate individuals to take up coaching programs to build expertise and contribute to the sport’s advancement,” he added.

The meeting reflects the Federation’s renewed efforts to professionalize basketball coaching and enhance the sport's competitiveness across Tanzania.
