Tanzania Prisons have secured their place in the NBC Premier League for the 2025/2026 season after defeating Fountain Gate FC 3-1 in the decisive second-leg playoff match played at Sokoine Stadium in Mbeya on Sunday, June 30, 2025.

The result sealed a 4-2 aggregate victory for Prisons, following a 1-1 draw in the first leg held at Tanzanite Kwaraa Stadium in Babati, Manyara Region.

Head coach Amani Josia credited the win to tactical discipline and psychological preparation of his players, noting that restoring confidence was key to overcoming the pressure of the relegation battle.

“It was a tough task, but I focused on building the players’ mental strength and fine-tuning our game plan. The boys responded well, and we got the result we needed,” said Josia.

Despite the defeat, Fountain Gate's Communications Officer, Issa Liponda, acknowledged Tanzania Prisons’ strong performance and admitted that his side fell short on the day.

“It wasn’t our best performance. We prepared well, but things didn’t go our way. We respect our opponents and will now focus on the next challenge,” said Liponda.

Fountain Gate will have another opportunity to fight for Premier League promotion as they prepare to face Championship side Stand United in a final playoff match scheduled for July 3, 2025, in Shinyanga. The winner will earn the final slot in next season’s NBC Premier League.
