Tanzania’s Wildlife Management Authority (TAWA) has received an award from the Foundation for Disabilities Hope (FDH) in recognition of its efforts to promote inclusive conservation and support people with disabilities.

The award was presented at TAWA’s headquarters in Morogoro on Sunday.

TAWA Acting Commissioner Mlage Kabange said the authority has worked with FDH to raise awareness among local communities about wildlife conservation and environmental protection.

“As part of our approach, we allow controlled fishing and beekeeping in some protected areas to help nearby communities benefit economically from conservation,” Kabange said.

FDH Executive Director Maiko Salali said the organization recognized TAWA’s commitment to helping vulnerable groups, including people with disabilities.

“TAWA has consistently supported disability-focused initiatives and helped remove barriers for people with disabilities to participate in conservation efforts,” he said.

Salali added that FDH would continue to collaborate with TAWA on environmental awareness and the promotion of tourism.

TAWA manages Tanzania’s game reserves and wildlife corridors, playing a key role in conservation and sustainable use of natural resources.
