The Audit Committee of the Rural and Urban Roads Agency (TARURA), led by Chairperson CPA Ally Rashid, has begun a regional inspection of critical road infrastructure projects aimed at enhancing transport and economic activities in Singida Region.

The committee’s tour included visits to two major projects: the construction of the Mkonjigwe stone bridge measuring 42 meters along the Chibumagwa–Sasajila–Makasuku–Itetema road in Manyoni District, and the ongoing tarmac works along Mandewa 69 Road in Singida Municipality, which spans 0.89 kilometers.

Providing progress updates, TARURA Singida Regional Manager, Engineer Ibrahim Kibasa, said the Mkonjigwe Bridge is being implemented in two phases.

The first phase involved excavation works, raft foundation installation, and the construction of bridge pillars.

The second phase includes building semi-circular retaining walls, bridge wings, protective embankments, stone wall connectors, compacting layers, surface paving, and grading access roads on both ends of the bridge.

Engineer Kibasa emphasized the bridge’s long-term value, saying its completion will transform transportation for local communities especially fish, salt, and grain traders in Manyoni by providing a reliable link across the river.

"This bridge will reduce the risk of fatalities during rainy seasons and improve access to markets, ultimately boosting livelihoods in the area," he noted.

Meanwhile, construction of the Mandewa 69 Road is progressing well, with the contractor having completed 88 percent of the works. Current activities include the construction of pedestrian and vehicle crossings. The project is expected to be fully completed by July 31, 2025.

Commending the efforts, CPA Ally Rashid said the committee’s role is to ensure transparency and quality in project implementation.

“We are satisfied with what we have seen. We encourage TARURA Singida to maintain quality standards and involve community members in safeguarding these public assets,” he advised.

The inspection tour underscores TARURA's commitment to ensuring that infrastructure investments translate into improved service delivery and economic empowerment for citizens across Tanzania.
