Tanzania’s government has completed the construction of four modern secondary schools in the country’s western regions, using TZS 12 billion (approx. USD 4.6 million) in funding under President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s administration, aimed at strengthening access to quality education.

The Ministry of Education said on Wednesday that two vocational secondary schools have been finalized in Kibondo District, Tabora Region, and Mlele District, Katavi Region, at a total cost of TZS 3.2 billion.

An additional TZS 8.8 billion has been spent on completing two all-girls’ secondary schools—Rukwa Girls’ Secondary School in Sumbawanga District and Katavi Girls’ Secondary School in Nsimbo District.

Both facilities are now operational and expected to expand educational opportunities for girls in remote areas.

The four institutions were constructed under the Secondary Education Quality Improvement Project (SEQUIP), a key initiative aligned with the ruling CCM party’s 2020–2025 development manifesto, which prioritizes investment in human capital through education.

The new girls’ schools feature science laboratories for chemistry, physics, biology, and geography, as well as classrooms, administrative offices, student dormitories, teachers' housing, ICT centres, dining halls, sanitary infrastructure, and perimeter fencing.

The vocational school in Mlele is equipped with classrooms, a library, laboratories, an ICT building, four dormitories, a dining hall, two technical workshops, teachers’ housing, and sanitation facilities.

Officials say the investment will enhance educational access, especially for girls, and provide skills critical for employment and innovation in Tanzania’s growing economy.
