Tulia Trust has launched the renovation of a home for a family whose house was destroyed by fire in Nsalaga Ward, Mbeya City, as part of its ongoing efforts to support vulnerable communities through the "Tulia Trust Mtaani Kwetu" programme.

The family of Mr. Ayoub Mwavipa lost all their belongings when fire razed their house several days ago.

The reconstruction effort is led by the Trust’s Director, Dr. Tulia Ackson, who is also the Speaker of the National Assembly of Tanzania, President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), and the outgoing Member of Parliament for Mbeya Urban.

The "Mtaani Kwetu" initiative targets families living in extreme hardship by building or renovating houses for those who cannot afford to do so on their own.

It has so far benefited numerous households within and beyond Mbeya Region.

Speaking during the launch of the renovation work, Tulia Trust representatives said the initiative aims to restore dignity and improve the quality of life for families affected by disasters or living in unsafe housing conditions.

“Disasters like house fires can destroy not only property but also hope. This programme exists to bring relief to such families and help them get back on their feet,” said one official.

Local residents welcomed the move and praised Dr. Ackson’s leadership, saying her efforts demonstrate a strong commitment to community welfare even as she prepares to leave office.

Beyond individual cases, the "Mtaani Kwetu" programme is part of a broader mission by Tulia Trust to strengthen social safety nets through inclusive support mechanisms.

The Trust often works with community members and stakeholders who contribute labour, building materials or logistical support to assist the most affected families.

The renovation for Mr. Mwavipa’s family is expected to be completed within a short period, offering them not just a roof over their heads, but renewed hope.
