President Samia Suluhu Hassan on Saturday officially inaugurated the Arise and Shine Church in Kawe, Dar es Salaam, in a colourful ceremony attended by religious leaders, government officials, and hundreds of congregants.
The inauguration event saw the Head of State unveil a commemorative plaque and cut a ribbon, symbolically marking the official opening and laying of the foundation stone of the church, which now becomes a new spiritual home for many Christians in the area.
President Samia praised the role of faith-based institutions in shaping society, calling them pillars of peace, morality, and social cohesion.
She encouraged religious leaders to continue nurturing unity and patriotism, especially among the youth, whom she described as key to Tanzania’s future.
“Churches and other religious institutions have always played a key role in promoting values that build a strong nation. This new place of worship will not only serve as a centre for spiritual nourishment but also as a platform for spreading love, harmony, and service to the community,” said President Samia.
After officiating the ceremony, the President took time to greet members of the congregation, who welcomed her with cheers and heartfelt blessings.
Church leaders commended her humility and commitment to national development, noting that her presence was a sign of recognition of the church's role in fostering social well-being.
Construction of the Arise and Shine Church began three years ago, funded primarily through contributions from its members and well-wishers.
The modern facility is equipped with a large sanctuary, offices, and youth fellowship halls, and is expected to host over 1,000 worshippers during regular services.
The church leadership expressed gratitude for the government’s support in facilitating the development of religious infrastructure and called for continued collaboration in addressing community needs.
The ceremony concluded with a prayer session and gospel performances that celebrated unity and thanksgiving.
