President Samia appoints new leaders to key government and boards

President Samia Suluhu Hassan has appointed new leaders to various key government positions in a strategic move aimed at reinforcing effective governance, accountability, and service delivery across the country.

The appointments, announced through a statement by the Chief Secretary, Ambassador Dr. Moses Kusiluka, include both new appointments and reappointments of seasoned professionals in regional administration, regulatory bodies, and public institutions.

Mr. Omari Juma Mkangama has been appointed as the District Executive Director (DED) for Ludewa District, while Mr. Juma Abdallah Njeru will now serve as the DED for Mpanda District

In Kilimanjaro Region, Ms. Hellen Emmanuel Mwambeta has been named DED for Siha District Council, and Mr. Francis Genes Kafuku takes over as DED for Kasulu District Council in Kigoma Region.

 These appointments are expected to enhance local governance and accelerate development at the grassroots level.

In key public institutions, Dr. Adam Omar Karia has been reappointed for a second term as Principal of the Water Development and Management Institute, a strategic institution in Tanzania’s water sector capacity building.

In the investment and economic growth space, Ambassador Dr. Aziz Ponary Mlima has been appointed Chairperson of the Tanzania Investment and Special Economic Zones Authority (TISEZA), a role that will see him guide efforts to attract investors and promote industrial growth.

Promoting Good Governance in Oversight Bodies
President Samia has also reappointed Mr. Filbert Michael Mponzi as Chairperson of the Tanzania Sugar Board, allowing him to continue providing leadership in regulating and developing the sugar industry.

Dr. Leonada Raphael Mwagike returns as Chairperson of the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA), where she is expected to maintain momentum in improving transparency and efficiency in public procurement.

In the conservation sector, Retired General Venance Salvatory Mabeyo has been reappointed as Chairperson of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA). His continued leadership is expected to promote a balance between conservation and community livelihoods.

Meanwhile, in higher education, Dr. Harrison George Mwakyembe has been reappointed as Chairperson of the Council of Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS), where he will steer the university’s academic and research agenda.

These appointments underscore President Samia’s commitment to entrusting capable leaders with the responsibility of driving the country’s development vision and public sector reforms.
