Tanzanian boxer Mfaume Mfaume and Malawian opponent Kudakwache Banda are set to headline the official weigh-in ceremony ahead of the highly anticipated Dar Boxing Derby, scheduled to take place tomorrow at the Leaders Club grounds in Dar es Salaam.
The two fighters will meet in the main event on Friday, July 26, 2025, in what promises to be an explosive night of boxing.
Their face-off will be preceded by a series of undercard bouts featuring top local talents, including a unique matchup between Denisi Nkane and Kibwana Shomari, who are both affiliated with Young Africans Sports Club (Yanga).
The inclusion of footballers in the ring is expected to bring a new level of excitement and fan engagement to the event.
The lineup of fighters also includes well-known names such as Ibrahim Class, who will battle Nassib Ramadhan, and Said Bwanga, who is set to face Loren Japhet.
Other matchups feature Hamad Furahisha versus Japhate Herman, Adam Peter against Abdallah Ponda, and Halid Karama facing Abdurazaq Hamis.
Additional bouts include Vigulo Shafii versus Idd Pazi, Richard Chopsla against Rashid Said, Ramadhan Shauri taking on Issa Nampepeche, and Ismail Ibrahim clashing with James Kibazange.
The women’s division will also shine, with Sarah Alex going up against Stumai Muki, and Debora Mwenda expected to step into the ring, though her opponent has yet to be confirmed.
Speaking to The Respondent Online, event promoter Sulemani Semunyu, who is also the founder of Peaktime Media and Sports Agent, said preparations are nearing completion.
“We are about 99 percent ready. The final one percent will be completed once the boxers step into the ring and deliver a thrilling show for Tanzanians. Gates will open early to welcome fans,” he said.
Semunyu noted that infrastructure at the venue has been fully prepared for the weigh-in and the main event, and ticket prices have been set as low as TSh 5,000 to make the event accessible to all.
He encouraged fans to purchase tickets in advance and support the growth of professional boxing in Tanzania.
The Dar Boxing Derby is also expected to attract special guests from the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Sports, the National Sports Council (BMT), the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF), and other sports stakeholders.
Adding to the excitement, a lineup of live music performances will energize the crowd, featuring artists such as Dogo Pateni, Dogo Elisha, and Msizo Msomari.
With boxing action, celebrity appearances, and live entertainment, the event promises to be a thrilling experience for sports and music fans alike.
