The Acting Director General of the Fair Competition Commission (FCC), Khadija Juma Ngasongwa, has assured local investors that Tanzania has a robust legal framework in place to safeguard investments and promote fair competition across all sectors.

Speaking on July 4, 2025, during her visit to the Industry and Trade Pavilion at the ongoing 49th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF), commonly known as Sabasaba, Ms. Ngasongwa said the Commission is working to implement President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s vision of improving the business environment and protecting consumers.

“We are here to fulfill the mission of the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, by strengthening the business environment through effective regulation and oversight,” she said.

She emphasized that FCC’s mandate includes ensuring that businesses operate in a competitive and transparent manner, protecting consumers from unfair practices, and combating the circulation of counterfeit goods.

“Our major goal is to ensure that local investors operate in a fair market governed by strong legal protections. This builds confidence and allows them to explore opportunities within Tanzania’s growing economy,” she explained.

Ms. Ngasongwa praised the government for creating an investment-friendly climate and said it was now up to Tanzanians to seize the opportunities available, especially as the country opens up more for private sector growth.

“We thank the government for putting in place the right conditions that allow even small-scale investors to grow. The business environment has improved significantly under this administration,” she noted.

She also highlighted the importance of this year’s Sabasaba trade fair, where more than 3,000 companies are showcasing products and services. She encouraged visitors to take advantage of the networking and learning opportunities.

“This exhibition allows those with small capital to engage with established investors and learn how to scale their businesses. It’s an inclusive platform for business growth,” she said.

Ms. Ngasongwa warned the public against buying or trading in counterfeit products, noting that doing so is a criminal offense under the country’s laws.

“We urge citizens to visit our booth at the Industry and Trade Pavilion, where our experts are educating the public on how to identify fake products and understand their risks. Counterfeit goods harm the economy, consumers, and legitimate businesses,” she said.

The FCC continues to play a key role in ensuring that Tanzanian markets remain fair, competitive, and supportive of investment, in line with national development goals.
