A delegation from the Ladies of New Millennium, led by Chairperson Mrs. Tunu Pinda, has lauded the government's ongoing efforts to alleviate poverty through the Tanzania Social Action Fund (TASAF).
The comment was made during a working visit to Ilemela Municipal and Mwanza city council in Mwanza region where the delegation had an opportunity to interact with beneficiaries and visit TASAF projects implemented in the duo Program Authority Areas.
The visitors include Ms Tunu Rehani Pinda, Ms. Asina Kawawa, Ms. Blandina Mususa, Ms. Suzana Charles Majua, and Ms. Frida Rugemalira.
While in Ilemela District, the delegation toured Igogwe Secondary School, where they observed improvements in education infrastructure made possible through TASAF-supported community interventions.
They also engaged with groups of micro-entrepreneurs mainly women who have benefitted from entrepreneurship training and seed capital under the programme.
“These small grants are not just improving household incomes they are transforming lives,” Mrs. Pinda said.
“We are witnessing firsthand how social protection can empower communities to build sustainable livelihoods.”he added
In a symbolic gesture of support, the Ladies of New Millennium donated cooking gas cylinders to several TASAF beneficiaries to promote the adoption of clean and safe energy.
The move aligns with national efforts to reduce dependency on charcoal and firewood fuels that pose risks to both human health and the environment.
The delegation also held talks with Mwanza Regional Administrative Secretary Mr. Balandya Mayuganya, who briefed them on the region’s progress in implementing Productive Social Safety Net (PSSN) and its broader impact on socio-economic development.
Speaking on behalf of TASAF Executive Director Mr. Shedrack Mziray, the Director of Knowledge Management and Advocacy Mr. Japhet Boaz, said the programme continues to play a vital role in uplifting the most vulnerable populations.
“More than one million households across the country are benefitting from TASAF interventions that span education, health, nutrition, and public works,” he said, adding that the goal is not just to provide support but to build the capacity of citizens to actively participate in their own development.
The delegation hailed President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, for sustaining and scaling up efforts to tackle poverty through inclusive policies and effective coordination.
They also commended TASAF for its transparent and accountable management of resources, and for designing interventions that respond directly to the needs of local communities.
“This visit has strengthened our belief in the importance of collaboration between civil society and government,” said Mrs. Pinda.
“Tackling poverty requires all hands on deck and TASAF is providing a solid platform for that.” She added.
