Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Energy, Dr Doto Mashaka Biteko, has formally entered the race to defend his Bukombe parliamentary seat under the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) ticket.
Dr Biteko, who has served as the Member of Parliament for Bukombe since 2015, picked and submitted his nomination forms on Saturday, June 29, 2025, at the CCM District Office in Bukombe. He handed the forms to the party’s district secretary, Mr Leonard Yesaya Mwakalukwa.
Speaking shortly after submitting his forms, Dr Biteko expressed his commitment to continue serving the people of Bukombe with renewed energy and a strong focus on development.
“I remain committed to advancing the interests of Bukombe. With your support, I am ready to continue the journey we began together,” he told supporters gathered outside the CCM office.
The nomination process, which is ongoing countrywide, has seen a wave of aspirants turning up at CCM offices to collect and submit forms for various leadership positions, including parliamentary and ward councillor posts.
Dr Biteko is among senior government officials seeking to retain their seats as the ruling party gears up for the 2025 General Election.
He has been praised for his role in driving energy sector reforms and supporting rural electrification programmes across the country.
Bukombe constituency, located in Geita Region, has witnessed major infrastructure and energy development projects during Dr Biteko’s tenure factors expected to shape political debate as the campaign season draws near.
The internal party nomination process is expected to intensify in the coming weeks as CCM prepares to vet and select candidates who will represent the party in the general election later this year.
