The District Commissioner of Iringa,  Kheri James, has praised the increasing use of research and technology in transforming agriculture and urged farmers to embrace these tools to enhance productivity and sustainability in the sector.

Delivering his remarks earlier today at the District Farmers’ Day Exhibition held in Mbuyuni Village, Itundu Ward, Pawaga Division, James emphasized that technology and scientific research are critical in addressing key agricultural challenges, including water scarcity, crop diseases, and the effects of climate change.

The exhibition was organized by the Tanzania Agricultural Research Institute (TARI), and during his speech, the DC highlighted the importance of adopting modern, research-based farming techniques.

He commended TARI for its efforts in promoting climate-smart agriculture an approach that maximizes yields while using fewer seeds and less water.

“The use of research and technology is no longer optional but essential if we are to meet the demands of food security and economic empowerment,” he said.

James also noted that the government continues to invest heavily in the agriculture sector to benefit farmers and the national economy.

He encouraged farmers to take full advantage of these investments such as improved inputs, irrigation systems, extension services, and innovative farming methods to increase food production and strengthen their livelihoods.

Iringa District remains one of the key beneficiaries of ongoing agricultural reforms, driven by government-supported projects in irrigation, research, technology, and capacity building for farmers.

As part of the celebrations, the District Commissioner toured rice farms in the area and witnessed the significant improvements achieved by local farmers through research and innovations spearheaded by TARI.
