Azam U20 Head Coach Kassim Liogope has confirmed that the team is fully focused on the upcoming semi-final of the NBC U20 Premier League, set to take place on May 27 at the Azam Complex in Chamazi, Dar es Salaam.
Four teams have qualified for the semi-finals. From Group A, Azam topped the group with seven points, followed closely by Kengold with six points. In Group B, Fountain Gate and Kagera Sugar both secured seven points each to advance.
Looking ahead to the semi-final clash, Coach Liogope emphasized that the team is working hard in preparation to deliver a strong performance and secure a place in the final.
“Our primary objective was to achieve good results and finish top of our group, which we successfully accomplished. Now, we are fully focused on preparing for the semi-final,” Liogope said.
He added that Azam is ready to face any opponent in the next stage of the competition.
“We have studied all the teams, and some we have already faced this season. We are confident and ready to meet whichever team we are drawn against,” he remarked.
Liogope also highlighted that the team’s form has steadily improved, and they are determined to complete the tournament on a high note by achieving their set goals.
Meanwhile, Tanzania Prisons U20 coach Innocent Wangonde reflected on his team’s elimination, attributing it to the inexperience of his players.
He acknowledged that this year’s tournament has been highly competitive, with a noticeable increase in intensity and quality.
“If you are not well-prepared, challenges are inevitable. Last year, we didn’t reach this stage, but this year we did. We are now preparing early for the next season, and we aim to come back stronger. At this point, I have no regrets,” Wangonde stated.
