The President of Tanzania,  Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, will embark on a three-day State Visit to the Republic of Angola from April 7 to April 9, 2025.

This visit is being made at the invitation of the President of Angola,  João Manuel Gonçalves Lourenço.

The main objective of the visit is to strengthen the long-standing and friendly relations between Tanzania and Angola, which have deep historical roots.

During her time in Angola, President Dr. Samia will engage in bilateral talks with President Lourenço, aimed at discussing various issues of mutual interest.

One of the key events during the visit will be President Dr. Samia’s address to the Angolan Parliament, making her the first African female Head of State to speak at the Parliament. This momentous occasion marks a significant milestone in the history of African leadership.

President Dr. Samia will also participate in a wreath-laying ceremony at the monument of the late President António Agostinho Neto, the founding father of Angola.

This tribute highlights the strong historical ties between the two nations, which were established by their founding fathers, Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere of Tanzania and President Neto of Angola.

Both leaders shared a vision for African liberation and unity, laying the foundation for the partnership that has continued to grow over the years.

The cooperation between Tanzania and Angola has expanded beyond political and historical ties. Today, the two countries are focused on strengthening their economic relations.

Areas of collaboration include trade, investment, infrastructure development, oil and gas, mining, health, education, and tourism.

These sectors are crucial for both nations, and through the Bilateral Cooperation Commission, they have been able to align their efforts to foster mutual growth.

Another important aspect of the visit will be the signing of Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) between the two countries.

These agreements will further promote trade and investment, as well as enhance efforts to ensure peace and security in both nations.

The signing of these MoUs is expected to open up new opportunities for cooperation in various sectors, further strengthening the relationship between Tanzania and Angola.

One of the highlights of President Dr. Samia’s visit will be her tour of an oil refinery in Luanda, Angola’s capital.

Angola is the second-largest oil producer in Africa, and its economy is heavily reliant on oil production. Similarly, Tanzania has significant oil and gas reserves.

The visit offers an opportunity for the two countries to exchange knowledge and expertise in the oil and gas sector, building capacity among their respective professionals.

This State Visit is of great importance, as it marks the first time in 19 years that a Tanzanian President has visited Angola.

The last official visit by a Tanzanian Head of State took place in 2006 when President Jakaya Kikwete addressed the Angolan Parliament.

This visit is expected to further solidify the bonds between the two nations, leading to greater collaboration in various fields.
