Singida Black Stars secured a crucial 1-0 victory over Azam FC in a tightly contested Tanzanian Premier League match at Liti Stadium.
The sole goal of the encounter came from the boots of Lupia, whose clinical finish in the second half handed the home side all three points, much to the delight of the Singida faithful.
From the very first whistle, both teams demonstrated their intent to take control of the match. Azam FC, boasting a wealth of experience and technical ability, commanded possession early on and looked to dominate with quick passes and attacking combinations.
However, Singida Black Stars, known for their resilient and compact defense, stood firm against the visitors’ early pressure.
Azam FC’s first real opportunity came in the 15th minute when their forward, Mbaraka Yusuph, unleashed a powerful shot from outside the box.
Singida goalkeeper Mohamed Chama, however, was equal to the task, diving to his left to make a fine save and deny the visitors an early breakthrough.
The save set the tone for Chama’s impressive performance throughout the match, as he would go on to play a pivotal role in ensuring his team’s victory.
Despite being under pressure for large spells of the first half, Singida Black Stars showed they were a constant threat on the counterattack.
In the 25th minute, a well-timed through ball put Lupia through on goal, but his shot was blocked by Azam’s goalkeeper, Farouk Shikalo, who reacted quickly to thwart the opportunity.
As the second half began, Singida grew more confident, and their efforts finally paid off in the 58th minute.
A dangerous cross from the right wing found Lupia, who expertly positioned himself inside the penalty box.
He rose above the Azam defenders and headed the ball past Shikalo, sending the home crowd into raptures. Lupia’s composed finish was the highlight of the match and proved to be the decisive moment.
Azam FC, trailing by a goal, threw everything forward in search of an equalizer. Their midfielders, including Farouk Shikalo, tried to orchestrate the attack, but the Singida defense, led by the towering presence of their center-backs, stood resolute.
Time and again, Azam’s attempts were thwarted, with Chama continuing to make key saves and clearances to protect his goal.
As the clock ticked down, Azam became increasingly desperate, pushing forward with all their might. However, despite some close calls and a few half-chances, Singida Black Stars held firm. The final whistle blew, confirming a well-earned 1-0 victory for the home team.
This victory moves Singida Black Stars up the league table, reinforcing their credentials as a team to watch this season. Azam FC, on the other hand, will need to reflect on their inability to convert possession into goals, leaving them with much to improve upon as the season progresses.
Singida’s resilience and clinical finishing, particularly Lupia’s header, proved to be the difference in a hard-fought encounter.
