President Mwinyi meets former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair

The President of Zanzibar and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, has expressed his sincere gratitude to former UK Prime Minister Sir Tony Blair for his continued support and collaboration across various sectors.

 During a meeting with Sir Tony Blair, the President highlighted areas such as strengthening the ports, boosting tourism, and enhancing the capacity of the Government Monitoring and Evaluation Institute (PDB). 

"We greatly appreciate your contribution to the development of Zanzibar, particularly in key sectors that are crucial for our growth," President Dr. Mwinyi said.

The meeting took place at Sir Tony Blair's residence, The South Pavilion in Cotton Underwood, Aylesbury, United Kingdom, on April 6, 2025.

President Dr. Mwinyi also took the opportunity to reassure Sir Tony Blair about the peaceful conduct of this year’s general election. 

"I want to assure you that the general election will take place peacefully and smoothly, continuing the progress of the Government of National Unity," the President emphasized.

In response, former Prime Minister Tony Blair affirmed his commitment to supporting Zanzibar's development, particularly in the digital economy, tourism, and investment. 

"We are ready to continue collaborating with Zanzibar in fostering economic growth through digital innovation, tourism, and investment, especially through the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change," Blair said.

The meeting was attended by the Minister of State in the President's Office for Finance and Planning,  Dr. Saada Mkuya, Tanzania’s Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Mbelwa Kairuki, Ambassador John Ulanga, and the Director of Economic Diplomacy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation.
