Public-Private Partnership (PPP) experts in Tanzania have been urged to ensure the successful implementation of all major commercially viable projects in the country through PPP models, aimed at driving the nation's economic growth.

The call was made in Zanzibar by Ms. Amina Khamis Shaaban, Deputy Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, during the closing of the second meeting on collaboration between the President's Office for Labour, Economy, and Investment, Zanzibar, and the Ministry of Finance, Mainland Tanzania.

The meeting, focused on PPP issues, took place at the ZURA Hall in Zanzibar.

Ms. Shaaban emphasized the government’s continued support for the private sector in facilitating the execution of various development projects, ensuring that citizens benefit from quality services in critical sectors such as healthcare, education, and other essential services, thereby contributing to national economic development.

“It is crucial to involve the private sector in our development plans. They not only bring expertise but also the financial resources needed to drive progress. This collaboration is key to achieving sustainable development,” Ms. Amina stated.

Mr. Rashid Ali Salim, Deputy Principal Secretary in the President's Office for Labour, Economy, and Investment, Zanzibar, encouraged the private sector to seize the opportunities provided by the government to implement various development projects.

He noted that both parties would benefit from these partnerships.

“We invite the private sector to invest in projects that offer substantial returns, beyond creating jobs and paying taxes. These projects are transferred back to the government after an agreed period, as outlined in the contract,” Mr. Salim explained.

Meanwhile, Mr. Bashiru Taratibu, Acting Commissioner of the PPP Unit at the Ministry of Finance, reiterated that the Ministry, in collaboration with the Zanzibar PPP Department, would continue to actively encourage private sector participation in public sector-driven development projects.

“Our commitment is to work hand-in-hand with our partners to create a conducive environment that will attract the private sector, ensuring the successful implementation of development projects for the benefit of all,” Mr. Taratibu remarked.

This meeting was the second in a series of collaborative sessions between the Office of the President for Labour, Economy, and Investment, Zanzibar, and the Ministry of Finance, Government of the United Republic of Tanzania.

The first meeting was held in December 2024/2025, and the next session is anticipated to take place in the coming financial year.
