The government of the United Republic of Tanzania, led by President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, has informed Heads of State and Government in Africa that Tanzania will continue to strengthen agricultural research and collaborate with the private sector and public institutions engaged in agriculture to ensure the country remains a cornerstone in food production across Africa.

Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa made these remarks when representing President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan at a Special Summit of African Heads of State and Government to endorse the Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP 2026 - 2035).

The summit took place at the Speke Resort Conference Center, Munyonyo, Kampala, Uganda.

Majaliwa stated that African leaders expressed great optimism about Tanzania's strategies to produce high-quality food crops, particularly rice and maize, which he referred to as significant achievements in the agricultural sector in Tanzania.

He emphasized that Tanzania has devised a strategy to ensure continued food production for domestic consumption and surplus for export.

Uganda's President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni took the opportunity to urge African leaders to ensure they add value to agricultural products before selling them in order to increase productivity and create more jobs, especially for the youth.

"I hope people will compete for quality in production. For instance, rice from Tanzania is of better quality and cheaper. There was a time when they wanted to stop me, but I told them to strive and compete in producing quality products," said President Museveni.
