The Sixth Phase Government, under the leadership of President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, has directed the Ruangwa District Water and Sanitation Agency (RUWASA) to complete the water well drilling project in Mmawa Village by January 31, 2025.

This deadline aims to ensure that all areas currently lacking water services can begin offering these essential services, fulfilling the Government's commitment to improving access to clean water.

After inspecting the site and laying the foundation stone for the Mmawa Village Water Project, Deputy Minister for Water, Engineer Kundo Methew, emphasized the importance of completing the project on time to alleviate water scarcity in the region and neighboring areas.

In addition, Kundo also inaugurated a separate project for the drilling of wells and the construction of basic water infrastructure, valued at 325 million Tanzanian shillings, which will serve five villages in Ruangwa District, Lindi Region.

He highlighted that the Government, under President Samia’s leadership, is committed to investing substantial funds in water projects across the country.

The goal is to ensure that all citizens, especially in rural areas, have easy access to clean water. Kundo also instructed the Water Engineer to improve certain aspects of the project, such as water meters and pressure levels in the distribution pipes.

This well drilling and infrastructure development project is part of a broader national initiative to drill 900 wells across all constituencies. These projects aim to expand water access to rural communities that currently lack reliable water sources.

Ruangwa District RUWASA Manager Lawrence Mapunda explained that the project is being implemented through a force account system, with the construction of water infrastructure now 85% complete.

Once finalized, the project will benefit a total of 917 households across the five villages: Mmawa, Mtawilile, Njawale, Mpara, and Namkatila.

The initiative will also improve water access in rural areas, raising the coverage from 74.8% to 77.42%. Upon completion, the community will take over the operation and management of the water services through water user committees.
