Parliament committee praises ministry’s efforts in equality and women empowerment

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Social Welfare and Development has praised the Ministry of Community Development, Gender, Women, and Special Groups for its commendable efforts in implementing Tanzania’s Generation Equality Program (GEF) and promoting women’s economic empowerment through the Women Development Fund (WDF).

The commendation came from the committee's chairperson, Fatma Toufiq, during a presentation on the ministry’s achievements on January 22, 2025, in Dodoma.

Toufiq lauded the ministry's commitment to community development through various government-led initiatives, which have significantly addressed citizens' challenges and uplifted their economic status.

“The ministry is doing exceptional work in driving community progress and enhancing welfare. 

We acknowledge your efforts, and the committee remains committed to supporting you in realizing the President’s vision for this ministry, which is focused on fostering development and societal well-being,”  Toufiq stated.

In her address, the Minister of Community Development, Gender, Women, and Special Groups, Hon. Dr. Dorothy Gwajima, reaffirmed the ministry's dedication to implementing programs that align with their objectives and support President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan’s mission to advance development and improve the lives of citizens.

“We will continue coordinating key initiatives to ensure they achieve their intended goals and contribute to the nation’s progress,” said Dr. Gwajima, expressing gratitude to the committee for their unwavering cooperation and constructive guidance.

Meanwhile, Acting Permanent Secretary Advocate Amon Mpanju emphasized the ministry's plans to enhance services for children and the elderly by collaborating with regional and local government authorities to designate special areas for investments in these critical services.

The committee’s recognition underscores the ministry’s pivotal role in driving inclusive development and empowering marginalized groups across the country.
