On January 03, 2025, the Japanese Ambassador to Tanzania, Yasushi Misawa, paid a farewell visit to the Commissioner General of the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA), Mr. Yusuph Juma Mwenda, at the TRA headquarters in Dar es Salaam.
The meeting marked the conclusion of Ambassador Misawa's diplomatic tenure in Tanzania.
The two leaders engaged in discussions focusing on taxation, investment, trade, and the exchange of expertise between their countries.
Ambassador Misawa praised the TRA for its professional and efficient approach to tax collection, which he said has significantly bolstered Tanzania’s investment climate.
“The strides TRA has made in civilized and effective tax collection are commendable, as they enhance the country’s appeal to investors. Japan remains committed to strengthening the partnership with Tanzania, particularly in fostering trade and investment,” stated Ambassador Misawa.
He also highlighted the potential benefits of sharing expertise between the TRA and Japan’s tax authorities to further improve efficiency and compliance.
Commissioner General Mwenda expressed his gratitude for the longstanding cooperation between TRA and Japan, particularly in matters related to taxation and investment.
“The TRA values its collaboration with Japan, and we are committed to adhering to laws that facilitate diplomatic and investment operations. This ensures a favorable environment for international trade and investment,” he noted.
Mr. Mwenda also acknowledged the positive outcomes of the bilateral relationship between the two nations.
“We are deeply appreciative of Japan’s support and the mutual benefits derived from this partnership. As TRA, we pledge to strengthen these ties to achieve even greater results,” he added.
The visit served as a reaffirmation of the strong ties between Tanzania and Japan, particularly in advancing trade, investment, and effective tax administration.
