The Minister of Works, Hon. Abdallah Ulega, conducted an unannounced nighttime inspection on Saturday, December 28, 2024, to assess the progress of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) infrastructure projects across Dar es Salaam.

The visit aimed to ensure timely completion of the projects to address the city's persistent traffic congestion.

During the visit, Minister Ulega instructed contractors to accelerate their efforts and complete the work before the upcoming Masika rainy season, expected early next year.

"I have ordered round-the-clock work to guarantee these projects are finished on schedule. The rainy season brings challenges, and we cannot let citizens face unnecessary hardships.

These efforts align with the directives of His Excellency President Samia Suluhu Hassan and the 2020-2025 CCM Manifesto, which emphasizes reducing urban traffic congestion," he said.

The inspection covered the expansion of the BRT Phase 1 road from Ubungo to Kimara and the Mwenge-to-Tegeta road under BRT Phase 4.

Minister Ulega expressed satisfaction with the pace of work and praised the contractors for adhering to his directive for 24-hour operations.

"The TANROADS team, led by Chief Executive Engineer Mohamed Besta, is doing an exceptional job. Contractors must continue to work tirelessly. Tanzanians are eager to see these projects completed, and we as a government are committed to their welfare," he added.

Engineer Besta assured the minister that TANROADS would continue strict supervision to maintain the momentum.

"We will ensure contractors remain diligent and continue working day and night, even in the absence of surprise visits. Our goal is to reduce traffic congestion in Dar es Salaam," said Engineer Besta.

BRT Project Manager Engineer Allen Natai also confirmed steady progress, stating that the construction of BRT infrastructure is proceeding as planned.

Minister Ulega's visit highlights the government’s determination to ensure major development projects meet deadlines and adhere to quality standards

. The surprise inspection reinforces the importance of efficient infrastructure development in enhancing urban mobility and improving the quality of life for Dar es Salaam residents
