The head coach of the national boxing team, Samwel Kapungu, famously known as "Batman," has embarked on a significant mission to strengthen the squad by recruiting talented boxers

. This effort is part of a strategic plan to build a formidable team that will excel in upcoming international competitions and elevate Tanzania's boxing reputation on the global stage.

The process of reinforcing the national team has already begun with the Champions of Champions tournament, where Batman, along with his coaching staff, selected 14 talented boxers from each weight category.

These young athletes, who have shown exceptional promise, will be handed over to the Executive Committee of the National Boxing Federation (BFT) for further assessment and integration into the national squad.

In an interview with The Respondent Online, Batman shared his vision for the future of the team, revealing plans to form four separate squads: two for men and two for women, each categorized as Team A and Team B

. This structure aims to foster competition within the teams, ensuring that only the best boxers make it to the highest levels of competition. These teams will receive comprehensive training in preparation for international events slated for 2025.

“Our primary objective is to establish a well-rounded team of fighters who can compete at the highest level,” Batman said. “We want a team that not only represents Tanzania but is also capable of winning medals at major international tournaments.”

The selected boxers will undergo a rigorous training program designed to sharpen their technical abilities, physical endurance, and mental resilience—skills critical for success in the highly competitive world of boxing.

This training will serve as a solid foundation for the athletes as they prepare for the challenges ahead.

As part of the ongoing process to build a strong and diverse squad, Batman mentioned that the national team would continue to scout talent across various regions of Tanzania

. This will be achieved through a series of national tournaments that the BFT will organize throughout the coming year. By extending the search beyond urban areas, the federation hopes to uncover hidden talents from less-explored regions and ensure a more inclusive approach to team selection.

“We are committed to reaching out to every corner of the country to find young boxers with the potential to represent Tanzania at the international level. These national tournaments will provide an opportunity for boxers from all regions to showcase their abilities,” Batman stated.

The BFT’s initiative to expand and strengthen the national boxing team comes at a crucial time, as Tanzania prepares for international competitions in 2025

. Through its focus on developing youth talent, fostering internal competition, and conducting a nationwide search, the BFT is laying the groundwork for a brighter future for Tanzanian boxing. With dedicated leadership and a clear plan in place, the national team is poised for success in the years to come.
