The Dar es Salaam Special Police Zone has successfully apprehended 11 suspects involved in various criminal activities, including vandalizing gas pipelines belonging to ORYX and stealing copper.
The arrests occurred at the end of September, with the suspects primarily charged with offenses related to sabotage of gas pipelines and copper theft. Among those detained is Twaha Salum, 53, along with seven accomplices involved in the illicit tapping of oil and gas pipelines operated by ORYX, as well as trafficking goods through this infrastructure.
“These suspects have undergone thorough questioning, and evidence has been collected, which will be presented to relevant authorities for further legal action,” stated the police commander.
Additionally, three other suspects were arrested, including Daudi Matola, a truck driver responsible for transporting copper from neighboring countries to the Dar es Salaam port.
“One notable incident we are closely investigating occurred on August 7, 2024, involving the aforementioned driver collaborating with accomplices. He was found with a Benz truck, registration number T 882 DOK, along with its trailer, T 884 EEE, owned by FAA Truck,” the commander emphasized.
The police commander further noted that these suspects, along with others who may be apprehended, have been engaging in criminal activities before abandoning their vehicles post-crime.
The Dar es Salaam Special Police Zone urges community cooperation in reporting any suspicious activities to ensure all individuals involved are brought to justice.
“We continue to emphasize that the Dar es Salaam Special Police will show no leniency toward anyone involved in criminal activities. Each suspect will be investigated, evidence collected, and promptly brought before relevant legal authorities,” the report concluded.
