Arusha has become the latest
host for the third round of the prestigious golf tournament honoring the late
Lina Nkya, a former star of the national women's golf team. The highly
anticipated event commenced today at the Gymkhana grounds, following the
successful rounds held in Morogoro earlier this year.
A total of 124 players,
including 52 professionals and 72 amateurs, have registered to participate in
the tournament taking place at the Gymkhana golf course in Arusha.
Speaking shortly after
completing his registration, professional player Nuru Mollel expressed his
thorough preparation and high hopes for emerging victorious in the competition.
He urged Tanzanians to come out and watch the event and commended everyone who
ensured the tournament's success with professionalism and high standards.
"I have prepared well to
ensure I win this tournament. However, participating in this event is a great
opportunity for me to meet fellow players and continue exchanging
experiences," said Mollel.
Another participant, amateur
winner of the first two rounds in Morogoro and Moshi, Alli Sanzu, emphasized
the importance of the Arusha tournament for him as it is the final one before
the major competition in Dubai. He stated that he has invested all his efforts
into ensuring a strong performance and aiming for victory.
The tournament will run from
July 11 to 14, 2024, with the final day dedicated to awarding prizes to all
winners in various categories. The first-place winner will receive a trophy and
cash prize.
The winner of the first
tournament of the season held at TPC Moshi in Kilimanjaro was Moreli, followed
by Fadhili Nkya. In the Morogoro tournament, Hassan Kadio claimed first place,
with Abdallah Yusuph coming in second.
