A water crisis that left residents of Suzini village in Micheweni District without a reliable supply for more than five days is expected to ease after the Wingwi constituency representative donated a new pump worth TZS8.5 million.
The pump was handed over to residents and officials from the Zanzibar Water Authority (ZAWA) on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, following the breakdown and burning of the equipment previously used to pump water to Suzini and neighbouring areas.
The shortage had disrupted access to water for households in the village, prompting calls for urgent intervention.
Wingwi representative Kombo Mwinyi Shehe said the water problem had been a major concern and that resolving it was a priority.
“Today, Alhamdulillah, I can sleep. We have addressed the water problem and put it right,” Mr Shehe said during the handover.
He urged residents to report emerging problems early to enable authorities and community leaders to intervene before they become more difficult to resolve.
For Suzini residents, the new pump is expected to restore water services and reduce the disruption caused by the breakdown.
Khamisi Shehe Maalim, speaking on behalf of the residents, thanked Mr Shehe for responding to their concerns.
“Alhamdulillah, he heard our cry and we thank the representative for resolving a problem that had become difficult to endure,” Mr Maalim said.
