Residents of Nkansi District and Sumbawanga Municipality are set to benefit from improved healthcare services after the government supplied medical equipment worth TZS312 million to two dispensaries.
Chala Dispensary in Nkansi received equipment worth TZS267 million, while King’ombe Dispensary in Sumbawanga Municipality received equipment valued at TZS45 million.
The equipment is expected to strengthen diagnosis and treatment services and improve maternal and child healthcare, particularly by addressing shortages that can affect the quality and safety of care.
Speaking during the handover on September 30, Special Seats MP for Rukwa Jacqueline Mzindakaya said the equipment would increase the capacity of the two facilities to serve patients more effectively.
“We have received medical equipment that will significantly help improve health services for residents and reduce maternal and child deaths,” Ms Mzindakaya said.
She said the investment would also improve working conditions for health workers and reduce challenges associated with shortages of essential medical equipment.
The supplies, provided through the Tanzania Comprehensive Health Management Project (TCHMP), include digital blood pressure monitors, fetal heart monitors, patient monitoring machines, assisted-delivery sets, wheelchairs, medicine refrigerators and delivery beds.
The equipment comes at a time when access to functional diagnostic and treatment equipment remains important for health facilities serving growing populations, particularly in areas where patients may otherwise have to travel longer distances for specialised services.
Ms Mzindakaya thanked the government for the support, saying the equipment would help improve access to essential healthcare services for residents of Nkansi and Sumbawanga.
The investment is expected to strengthen maternal and child health services while improving the overall capacity of Chala and King’ombe dispensaries to provide timely and safe care.
