The State Mining Corporation (STAMICO), as part of its efforts to promote the use of Rafiki Briquettes among different groups of Tanzanians, today, September 22, 2026, conducted training and awareness activities for members of the National Council of the Union of Tanzanian Women (UWT).
The initiative aimed to encourage UWT members to join the efforts of the President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, in promoting the Clean Cooking Energy Agenda, with the goal of ensuring that at least 80 percent of Tanzanians use clean energy by 2034.
The training was held at the White House Hall in Dodoma and was attended by members of the UWT National Council, as well as UWT chairpersons and secretaries from districts across Tanzania.
Speaking during the training, STAMICO Manager for Marketing and Public Relations, Deus Alex Ntukamazina, explained the benefits and effectiveness of Rafiki Briquettes, including their long burning time and their contribution to protecting the environment and human health.
He explained that the briquettes can be used for various household activities, including cooking, roasting meat and boiling different items.
They can also be used in industrial activities such as drying agricultural produce and generating heat for various industrial processes.
Mr. Ntukamazina also highlighted the business opportunities available to UWT members who wish to partner with STAMICO in distributing Rafiki Briquettes and generate income through the business.
He further said the energy source is safe and has been certified by the Tanzania Bureau of Standards (TBS).
He added that STAMICO uses specialised equipment known as a carbonizer, which helps reduce the heat intensity of the briquettes, preventing damage to cooking pots while also reducing carbon emissions and other gases that may be harmful to human health.
UWT members who participated in the training and asked questions called on STAMICO to conduct similar training sessions in different parts of the country.
They also expressed interest in becoming Rafiki Briquettes agents and pledged to serve as ambassadors in promoting the use of the clean energy source as an alternative to firewood and charcoal.
The UWT National Chairperson, Mary Chatanda (MCC), urged members to take advantage of the opportunity to become distributors of Rafiki Briquettes across the country.
She also called on them to support the CCM Chairperson and President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, in advancing the Clean Cooking Energy Agenda and environmental protection initiatives.
STAMICO has reaffirmed its commitment to accelerating the distribution of Rafiki Briquettes as part of efforts to support the President's campaign for the adoption of clean and safe energy, while contributing to the protection of the environment and the health of Tanzanians.
