Preparations for the inaugural Simba Marathon are gathering pace ahead of the October 4 event at Coco Beach, with organisers continuing to distribute race kits and register participants.
The marathon is part of activities marking Simba Sports Club’s 90th anniversary and is also intended to raise funds to support former players who served the club at different stages of its history.
Speaking on September 27, 2026, during the distribution of race kits in Dar es Salaam, an organiser said the exercise was progressing well, with registered participants collecting their kits while registration remained open for new entrants.
“We are continuing with the distribution of race kits as well as registration of participants at a fee of TZS45,000 as we work towards achieving our targets,” the organiser said.
Participants will compete in three categories 5km, 10km and 21km providing options for both recreational runners and those seeking a longer-distance challenge.
The organisers are encouraging people who have not yet registered but wish to participate to complete the registration process ahead of race day.
Beyond celebrating Simba’s nine decades, the marathon is expected to provide financial support to former players who contributed to the club’s history, linking the anniversary celebrations with a fundraising initiative for its football veterans.
