Azam FC have shifted their focus to their NBC Premier League meeting with Coastal Union as they seek to make the most of a lengthy preparation period ahead of the October 8 clash in Tanga.
The match will be played at Mkwakwani Stadium, with Azam returning to league action after a short break following their September 16 encounter against Simba.
Azam FC Head of Information and Communications, Zakaria Thabith, said the team resumed training on September 22 and had begun preparations for the Coastal Union fixture.
He said the club also plans to play a technical friendly match at the Azam Complex during the preparation period, with the game expected to be held without live broadcasts or other additional activities.
“After that match, the team will continue with final preparations for the Premier League match against Coastal Union before turning its attention to the second round of the CAF Confederation Cup against ZED FC,” Mr Thabith said.
He urged Azam supporters not to lose hope over the team's early-season results, noting that the league campaign is still at an early stage.
According to Mr Thabith, Azam have played only seven league matches, meaning there is still a significant part of the season remaining.
He said the club was currently concentrating on the Coastal Union fixture rather than discussing the continental assignment in detail.
“Coastal Union are a difficult team, especially when playing at home, so our immediate focus is on that match,” he said.
Mr Thabith also said the team had shown progress from its opening league match to its most recent game, suggesting that the technical bench was continuing to work on improving the squad's performance.
Azam will be hoping to use the extended training period to sharpen their tactical approach and improve their league campaign before switching attention to their CAF Confederation Cup commitments.
