Innovations developed by the Vocational Education and Training Authority (VETA) could transform agricultural production by helping farmers and livestock keepers improve efficiency, reduce labour challenges and increase incomes, Singida Regional Administrative Secretary Dr Fatuma Mganga has said.
Dr Mganga made the remarks on Tuesday during her visit to VETA’s pavilion at the National Farmers’ Exhibition (Nanenane) held at the Dr John Malecela grounds in Nzuguni, Dodoma, where she assessed technologies developed to support the agriculture and livestock sectors.
She praised VETA for developing practical solutions, including machinery designed to simplify farming activities, saying such innovations could play a key role in boosting productivity among small-scale producers.
“We have seen the efforts being made by VETA in manufacturing different machines that make work easier for farmers and livestock keepers. The machines, including those used for mixing animal feeds, can provide important support to citizens engaged in production,” Dr Mganga said.
She said access to appropriate technology was critical in modernising agriculture, adding that simple and affordable machines could help farmers improve output and increase the profitability of their activities.
Dr Mganga challenged VETA to strengthen partnerships with farmers, local authorities and other stakeholders to ensure locally developed technologies reach the intended users.
“VETA should continue working with those who need these products because they are the market. Through these technologies, we can accelerate the implementation of Vision 2050 by empowering more citizens with equipment and innovations that improve production,” she said.
She also called for stronger collaboration between VETA and regional, district and council authorities to link innovators with youth groups and entrepreneurs receiving financial support to establish income-generating projects.
Many of these groups, she noted, require appropriate tools and machinery to successfully implement their projects and expand their businesses.
VETA’s participation at Nanenane is aimed at promoting vocational education opportunities linked to agriculture and livestock development, while showcasing technologies that support productivity, market expansion and value addition.
The institution is also using the exhibition to highlight locally developed products that strengthen agricultural value chains in line with this year’s Nanenane theme: “Identify the Market, Increase Productivity, Implement Vision 2050.”
