More than TZS5.2 billion worth of development projects have been launched and inspected in Shinyanga Municipal Council, with Minister for Home Affairs Patrobas Katambi calling on Tanzanians, particularly young people, to safeguard peace and focus on activities that drive development.
Mr Katambi made the call during his visit to Shinyanga, where he participated in the launch and inspection of projects implemented as part of the 2026 Uhuru Torch Race, as well as the laying of foundation stones for various projects.
The projects cover key areas aimed at improving the delivery of essential services and supporting socio-economic development in the municipality.
Mr Katambi said the projects demonstrated the Government’s commitment, under President Samia Suluhu Hassan, to ensuring citizens benefit from improved services and greater economic opportunities.
He said the Government was continuing to invest in health, water, education, infrastructure and energy, while expanding economic empowerment programmes, including access to capital for special groups, women and young people.
The minister urged young people to use their skills and energy to pursue productive activities, warning against involvement in actions that could threaten peace and undermine development gains.
“Development cannot be achieved without peace. Young people should participate in productive activities and avoid actions that can disrupt peace and security,” Mr Katambi said.
The 2026 Uhuru Torch Race leader, Wazo Michael Mwang'onda, said the torch continues to serve as an important platform for highlighting development projects and assessing their implementation and benefits to communities.
He said the initiative also encourages citizens to take ownership of development programmes and work together to address challenges facing their communities.
The theme of the 2026 Uhuru Torch Race is “Tanzania Is Ours All, Let Us Unite and Work Together to Bring Development.”
Mr Mwang'onda said the theme underscores the importance of unity, peace and collective responsibility in advancing Tanzania’s development agenda.
