The Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) has taken tax services closer to traders and members of the public attending the Kizimkazi Festival and Business Exhibition, with a dedicated service desk providing registration, taxpayer education and other services.
The initiative is part of TRA’s efforts to improve access to tax services, widen the tax base and support businesses to operate within the formal economy.
TRA Commissioner General Yusuph Juma Mwenda visited the authority’s pavilion on August 13, 2026, where he presented Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) certificates to some members of the public who had registered during the festival.
Mr Mwenda said traders issued with new TINs under the initiative would be granted a one-year tax exemption, describing the measure as an incentive to encourage more businesses to register and join the formal tax system.
He said expanding the number of registered taxpayers would help broaden the tax base while creating a more supportive environment for businesses to grow and contribute to economic development.
“TRA is taking services closer to taxpayers by going to their business areas, listening to their concerns and helping them address the challenges they face,” Mr Mwenda said.
He said the approach was intended to make it easier for taxpayers to understand their obligations and access services without having to travel long distances to TRA offices.
Mr Mwenda urged traders, entrepreneurs and other visitors attending the Kizimkazi Festival to visit the TRA pavilion and make use of the services and tax education available throughout the exhibition.
The authority is also using the platform to educate business owners on tax compliance, registration and better ways of managing their businesses.
One of the beneficiaries, Yusuph Mabrook Juma, thanked TRA for bringing its services closer to the community.
Mr Juma said the tax education he received at the pavilion had improved his understanding of the importance of paying taxes and provided him with useful knowledge on running his business.
“The services have been brought closer to us, and the education we have received will help us understand our responsibilities and improve our businesses,” he said.
TRA’s participation in the Kizimkazi Festival highlights the authority’s growing focus on taxpayer outreach, education and service delivery as it seeks to improve compliance while supporting the development of small and emerging businesses.
