Tanzania Women’s Premier League champions Simba Queens are stepping up their preparations in Kenya ahead of the CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers, which are scheduled to begin in Rwanda on August 21, 2026.
The Tanzanian champions have set up a seven-day training camp in Kenya as they fine-tune their squad ahead of the regional qualifiers, with the technical bench using the camp to assess the team’s physical condition, tactical organisation and match readiness.
As part of their preparations, Simba Queens faced Kenya’s Mathare United Women in a friendly match, with the encounter ending in a goalless draw.
Despite the lack of goals, the match provided a valuable test for Simba Queens as the coaching staff continued to assess individual players and evaluate the team’s overall performance against competitive opposition.
The friendly also offered the technical bench an opportunity to identify areas that need improvement before the team enters the qualifiers, where the margin for error is expected to be small.
Simba Queens are scheduled to complete their Kenya camp before travelling to Rwanda via Uganda for the final phase of their preparations.
The team’s focus now shifts towards building consistency, improving its attacking efficiency and ensuring the squad is physically and tactically ready for the demands of the CECAFA qualifiers.
Having secured the domestic league title, Simba Queens will now look to translate their success at home into a strong regional campaign as they pursue a place in the final stage of the CAF Women’s Champions League.
The qualifiers will provide another important test of Tanzania’s growing strength in women’s club football, with Simba Queens carrying the country’s hopes of advancing further in the continental competition.
