President Samia Suluhu Hassan has congratulated Young Africans Sports Club (Yanga) for successfully hosting the 2026 edition of Yanga Day, describing the event as a success as the club prepares for a demanding domestic and continental campaign.

President Samia extended her congratulations after the Jangwani-based club concluded the celebrations with a 2–1 defeat to Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) side Les Aigles du Congo in an international friendly at Uhuru Stadium in Dar es Salaam.

The President also wished Yanga success in the 2026/27 season, which will see the club compete for honours in the Tanzania Mainland Premier League while also representing the country in the CAF Champions League.

Yanga made a promising start to the match when new signing Peter Shalulile put the hosts ahead. However, Les Aigles du Congo responded strongly, scoring twice to turn the game around and secure victory.

While the result denied Yanga a winning finish to Yanga Day, the match was primarily part of the club’s preparations for the new season and provided supporters with an opportunity to see the team’s new-look squad in action.

The event also offered Yanga an opportunity to formally introduce its new players and build excitement among its supporters ahead of the start of competitive football.

The Tanzania Mainland Premier League is scheduled to begin on August 14, with Yanga expected to face strong competition from traditional rivals Simba and other ambitious clubs in the race for the domestic title.

Yanga’s preparations will also be closely watched as the club seeks to make an impact in the CAF Champions League, where expectations will be high following its strong performances in recent continental campaigns.

For the Jangwani side, the focus now shifts from the celebrations to the more demanding task of turning its pre-season preparations into competitive results at home and on the African stage.
