PBPA uses Kizimkazi Festival to educate public on fuel imports

The Petroleum Bulk Procurement Agency (PBPA) has stepped up public education on Tanzania’s system for jointly importing petroleum products, using the ongoing Kizimkazi Festival to explain its role in ensuring a reliable fuel supply.

PBPA Administration Officer Bertha Mganga provided information to visitors at the agency’s exhibition booth at the 2026 Kizimkazi Festival in Dimbani, Kizimkazi, giving members of the public an opportunity to learn about the agency’s mandate and operations.

The engagement forms part of PBPA’s efforts to improve public understanding of the petroleum supply chain and the joint procurement system used in importing fuel.

Through the system, petroleum products are procured through a coordinated process, with the aim of strengthening efficiency in fuel imports and supporting a stable supply to the domestic market.

Ms Mganga explained PBPA’s responsibilities and activities as visitors sought clarification on the agency’s role in the petroleum sector.

The public outreach comes at a time when fuel supply and prices remain important issues for households, businesses and the wider economy, making greater understanding of the petroleum supply system essential.

The Kizimkazi Festival, which officially opened on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, by Zanzibar President and Chairman of the Revolutionary Council, Dr Hussein Ali Mwinyi, provides a platform for government institutions and private-sector stakeholders to engage directly with citizens.

PBPA’s participation allows the agency to take its public education efforts beyond formal sector engagements and reach consumers who are directly affected by developments in the petroleum market.

The agency is expected to continue using public forums and exhibitions to provide information on petroleum procurement, supply and its wider mandate in the sector.
