NSC tells Simba to take charge of new Constitution

By Our Reporter, Dar es Salaam

The National Sports Council (NSC) has clarified that Simba Sports Club is responsible for implementing its amended Constitution, ending speculation over the Government’s role in the club’s internal governance changes.

The NSC said yesterday that the Government had completed its part after reviewing, approving and formally handing over the amended Constitution to Simba on February 18, 2026.

The Constitution was endorsed by Simba members at a General Meeting held on November 30, 2025, before being submitted to the Registrar of Sports Associations and Clubs for legal scrutiny and approval.

According to the NSC, the approval process was completed in accordance with the law, giving Simba the green light to begin implementing the changes agreed upon by its members.

“The implementation of decisions contained in the Constitution should not be undertaken by the Government on behalf of the club,” the NSC said in a statement issued in Dar es Salaam yesterday.

The council said the decisions were made by Simba members through their General Meeting, making it the club’s responsibility to put them into effect using its established governance structures.

The clarification places the responsibility for completing the reform process firmly on Simba, while leaving the Government with its regulatory and oversight role.

However, the NSC said it was ready to assist where necessary, particularly on procedural matters that may arise during implementation.

It said Simba and other stakeholders could approach the NSC and relevant Government institutions for clarification on matters falling within their respective mandates.

The council urged Simba to use its legitimate internal mechanisms to complete implementation of the amended Constitution and formally submit any issues requiring Government guidance to the appropriate authorities.

The move is likely to provide greater clarity to Simba members and supporters who have been following the club’s governance changes and expectations surrounding implementation of the amended Constitution.

The NSC also reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to developing Tanzania’s sports sector through adherence to laws, regulations and established procedures.

It said the Government expected sports governance matters to be handled with stability, transparency and accountability, while protecting the interests of citizens and sports fans.

The statement was signed by Neema Y. Msitha, Executive Secretary of the National Sports Council (NSC).
