The Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA), in partnership with the Higher Education Students’ Loans Board (HESLB), has stepped up efforts to raise awareness about the Ngorongoro Scholarship Fund, a programme established to increase access to higher education for students living within the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.
The fund is designed to support eligible students from local communities in pursuing university and college education, with authorities describing it as part of wider efforts to improve educational opportunities and social development in the area.
Speaking during a stakeholder engagement meeting held in Ngorongoro, officials provided community leaders, students and other stakeholders with information on eligibility criteria, application procedures and funding requirements under the scholarship programme. Participants also reviewed and discussed guidelines governing the administration of the fund.
Community leaders welcomed the initiative, noting that the partnership between NCAA and HESLB could help ensure a more transparent and structured process for identifying beneficiaries and allocating support to deserving students.
Ngorongoro Pastoral Council chairman Edward Maura said the awareness programme had helped address information gaps that often prevent students from accessing available funding opportunities.
“We commend NCAA and HESLB for providing this education to students and the wider community. Many young people face challenges due to limited knowledge of application procedures and funding opportunities. This initiative will help them understand the process and make informed applications,” he said.
Mr Maura added that the programme could strengthen engagement between local communities and conservation authorities by ensuring that residents benefit from opportunities linked to the area’s development agenda.
According to NCAA, the scholarship fund is part of broader efforts to improve social services in Ngorongoro and build human capital within communities living in and around the conservation area.
Authorities say increasing access to higher education will equip young people with skills needed to contribute to community development, sustainable conservation and the tourism sector, which remains a key economic activity in the area.
The programme is expected to provide a pathway for more students from Ngorongoro to pursue higher education and enhance their participation in the region’s long-term socio-economic development.
