The Government has reiterated its commitment to constructing a state-of-the-art multi-purpose arena that will serve as a premier venue for sports, entertainment and international events, as Tanzania intensifies efforts to develop the sports industry and unlock opportunities for young people.
Prime Minister Dr. Mwigulu Lameck Nchemba said the project forms part of the government’s broader strategy to strengthen sports infrastructure, promote talent development and position Tanzania as a competitive destination for major regional and global events.
Speaking during the Knockout ya Mama Season 9 boxing tournament held at The Super Dome in Masaki, Dar es Salaam, on the night of July 30, 2026, Dr. Nchemba said the government, under President Samia Suluhu Hassan, remains committed to creating an enabling environment for the growth of sports through strategic investment and partnerships with the private sector.
He noted that the proposed arena would provide a modern platform for hosting high-profile sporting competitions, concerts and other large-scale events, while also offering young athletes access to facilities that can help them develop and showcase their talents.
“The construction of this arena will create opportunities to host major national and international competitions while providing young people with a conducive environment to nurture and advance their talents,” Dr. Nchemba said.
He added that investment in sports infrastructure is an important component of the government’s agenda to expand opportunities for youth, stimulate economic activity and strengthen Tanzania’s presence on the international sporting stage.
The Prime Minister also commended stakeholders in the sports sector for their continued efforts to promote talent development, noting that the government is working closely with private investors and sports organisations to accelerate the sector’s growth.
According to Dr. Nchemba, President Samia has consistently supported initiatives aimed at advancing sports and youth development, with ongoing investments helping to improve facilities, increase participation and raise the country’s competitiveness in various sporting disciplines.
The planned arena is expected to become a landmark facility capable of attracting major international events, boosting sports tourism and generating wider economic benefits through increased investment, employment and business opportunities linked to the sports and entertainment industries.
