The Foundation for Disabilities Hope (FDH), the State Mining Corporation (STAMICO) and Zanzibar Training College are set to sign a cooperation agreement tomorrow aimed at expanding the distribution of Rafiki Briquette alternative charcoal across Tanzania.

The agreement, to be signed on August 11, 2026, is expected to strengthen efforts to promote cleaner energy alternatives while reducing reliance on energy sources associated with environmental degradation.

Speaking to journalists in Dodoma on Monday, FDH Director Maiko Salali described the planned signing as a significant milestone in efforts to expand access to alternative energy.

“Tomorrow, we will witness a major historic event involving the signing of a cooperation agreement between Zanzibar Training College and STAMICO, in collaboration with FDH, for the large-scale distribution of Rafiki Briquette alternative charcoal,” Mr Salali said.

He said FDH had been appointed as one of the major distributors of the alternative charcoal after receiving an agency certificate, enabling the organisation to work with institutions to expand access to the product.

According to Mr Salali, the partnership will help increase the availability of Rafiki Briquette and make it easier for households and other users to access an alternative energy source.

He said the initiative was also aligned with the Government's efforts to promote cleaner cooking and energy solutions while addressing environmental challenges linked to the use of polluting fuels.

“We are very proud to support the implementation of the clean energy agenda, and we commend STAMICO for introducing alternative charcoal that will contribute to environmental conservation and reduce the negative effects associated with the use of polluting energy sources,” he said.

Mr Salali called on Tanzanians to embrace alternative energy solutions, saying wider adoption of cleaner energy would contribute to environmental protection and help safeguard natural resources for future generations.

He said FDH was ready to work with public and private institutions to ensure Rafiki Briquette becomes more accessible to consumers across the country.

The signing ceremony is expected to lay the foundation for wider distribution of alternative charcoal and strengthen collaboration among the three institutions in advancing Tanzania's clean-energy agenda.
