The Tanzania Netball Association (CHANETA) is in talks with the management of Filbert Bayi School to host the national team’s training camp ahead of the African qualifiers for the Netball World Cup in Kenya.
The association had initially planned to hold the camp in Simiyu Region in August but is now considering relocating it to Kibaha, Coast Region, to reduce travelling demands and create a more convenient environment for the team’s preparations.
Speaking to The Respondent Online, CHANETA Secretary General Rahma said negotiations with Filbert Bayi School were ongoing, with the proposed camp expected to start in September if an agreement is reached.
She said the camp would run for three weeks and would focus on implementing the technical and tactical programme prepared by head coach Winifrida Emmanuel and her coaching staff.
“It is true that our camp was initially scheduled to start in Simiyu in August, and we had been certain about that arrangement. However, our intention is to reduce the travelling distance. We are now in talks to move the camp to Kibaha, and once the discussions are successful, we will announce the details,” Rahma said.
She said the national squad had already been assembled, bringing together players from various clubs in Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar.
The team will be guided by Emmanuel, assisted by Hafsa Abrahaman, as CHANETA steps up preparations for the continental qualifiers, which will determine teams advancing to the Netball World Cup.
The squad includes Annamery Tushibe and Witness Edward of Jeshi Stars; Fatma Machenga, Anneth Kazimir, Salma Sandali and Maria Musiba of Uhamiaji; as well as Jesca Ngisase and Lucy Sweetbart of JKT.
Also selected are Lilian Jovin, Asha Said Rashid, Gloria Benjamin and Mecline Mwita of Tamisemi.
The Zanzibar-based players include Ruth Peter Mlalwe, Careen Msindai, Sophia Shaban and Tupege Lazaro of KVZ, Beatrice Simon of Mafunzo and Merciana Kizenga of JKU.
Completing the squad are Fausta Chikawe of Polisi Arusha, Cecilia Ngufuli of Magereza and Loli Maduhu of Zimamoto.
CHANETA hopes the proposed Kibaha camp will provide the team with sufficient time to strengthen coordination, improve match fitness and sharpen its tactical approach before travelling to Kenya for the qualifiers.
