Minister for Livestock and Fisheries, Ambassador Dr Bashiru Ally Kakurwa, has called for timely government funding for development projects, saying delays in financing could undermine efforts to improve essential infrastructure and services.
Dr Bashiru made the remarks on Tuesday during a four-day visit to Mara Region, where he inspected and launched several government development projects, including roads, bridges, markets, schools and health facilities.
He said the government would continue prioritising the timely release of funds for infrastructure projects, particularly roads, electricity and water, to ensure they are completed on schedule and deliver the expected benefits to citizens.
One of the projects he launched was the Majengo Mapya–Pambazuko Bridge in Musoma Municipality, constructed at a cost of more than TZS 287 million.
The bridge connects Bweri and Rwamlimi wards and is expected to improve transport links and make movement of people and goods easier within the municipality.
Dr Bashiru also inspected the construction of Nyayo Market, a bus terminal and local roads in Musoma Municipality. The projects are part of wider infrastructure investments intended to strengthen economic activity and improve access to public services.
At Jitirola Primary School, he laid the foundation stone for five classrooms, toilet facilities and an office. He also inspected a dispensary under construction at Kiriba Village, a project being implemented through joint efforts by residents and the government.
Mara Regional Commissioner Colonel Evans Mtambi said the market, bus terminal and local roads project in Musoma was expected to unlock investment and economic opportunities in the municipality.
He put the total cost of the project at TZS 19.6 billion, describing the investment as an important step towards improving infrastructure that supports trade, transport and local economic activity.
The minister’s visit is scheduled to continue on Wednesday, August 12, with inspections and commissioning of development projects in Butiama and Bunda districts.
