ACT Wazalendo has called on its members and young people in Wingwi Constituency to sustain regular exercise, saying physical activity remains one of the most effective ways to prevent non-communicable diseases (NCDs).
ACT Wazalendo Pemba Coordinator Rashid Ali Abdallah made the call on July 28, 2026, during a ceremony at the Wingwi Constituency Office where he handed over 80 T-shirts to the constituency’s exercise group on behalf of Wingwi Representative in the Zanzibar House of Representatives, Kombo Mwinyi Shehe.
Rashid said maintaining a culture of exercise was essential for improving public health, noting that regular physical activity helps reduce the risk of diseases associated with modern lifestyles.
“Continue with this initiative because it is very important in our daily lives. Good health requires commitment, and exercise is among the key steps towards achieving it,” he said.
He also urged the youth to maintain discipline, respect their leaders and work together to strengthen the group’s activities and unity among members.
ACT Wazalendo Micheweni District Secretary Khatib Hamad Sheikh encouraged the group members to continue participating in exercises while avoiding actions that could undermine the reputation of the initiative.
For his part, Wingwi Representative Kombo Mwinyi Shehe said the increasing burden of non-communicable diseases requires communities to adopt preventive measures, including regular exercise.
He described physical activity as an affordable and accessible approach to improving health, urging residents, leaders and youth to embrace exercise as part of their daily routines.
“The fight against non-communicable diseases requires collective efforts. Exercise is a simple practice with significant benefits for our health,” he said.
Meanwhile, Wingwi ACT Wazalendo exercise group leader Hamad Masoud Omar expressed appreciation to Representative Kombo Mwinyi Shehe for donating the 80 T-shirts, saying the support would motivate members and strengthen participation.
The exercise group was established by Wingwi youth under the supervision of former Wingwi legislator Juma Kombo Hamad, with the aim of promoting healthy lifestyles and bringing young people together through physical activities.
