Tanzania’s preparations to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) have entered a critical phase, with the Local Organising Committee (LOC) calling for stronger coordination, accountability and professionalism among stakeholders to ensure the country delivers a tournament that meets international standards.
LOC Chairman Leodegar Tenga said the success of the continental football showpiece will depend on the commitment of every committee member, effective teamwork and timely implementation of assigned responsibilities.
Speaking yesterday in Dar es Salaam during the second meeting of the LOC, Tenga emphasised that all preparations must strictly align with the requirements of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) as Tanzania works alongside Kenya and Uganda to host the tournament.
He said the joint hosting arrangement presents a major opportunity for East Africa to showcase its ability to organise a world-class sporting event, but achieving that goal requires unity and dedication from all parties involved.
“Every member has a responsibility to ensure that preparations move forward in line with CAF standards. We must remain united, accountable and focused on delivering a successful AFCON 2027,” Tenga said.
The AFCON 2027 finals are scheduled to be held from June 19 to July 17, 2027, with Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda serving as the host nations.
During the meeting, LOC members reviewed progress reports from key subcommittees overseeing Commercial and Marketing, Infrastructure, as well as Guest Services and Hospitality.
The updates highlighted ongoing efforts to strengthen preparations in areas critical to the successful hosting of the tournament, including facilities, partnerships, logistics and services for teams, officials and visitors.
The LOC said continued collaboration among government institutions, football authorities and other stakeholders will be essential in creating a memorable AFCON edition and positioning East Africa as a capable host of major international sporting events.
With preparations gathering pace, the committee has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring Tanzania plays its part in delivering a historic AFCON tournament that will leave a lasting legacy for football development and sports tourism in the region.
