TARURA Tanga Region has been recognised among Tanzania’s top-performing public institutions in procurement management after winning two awards at the 10th Public Procurement Conference 2026 in Arusha.
The awards, presented by the Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA), acknowledge the agency’s compliance with public procurement regulations and its performance in contract administration.
TARURA Tanga received the first award for successfully implementing the legal requirement that at least 30 per cent of procurement opportunities be reserved for special groups, including women, youth and persons with disabilities.
PPRA said the agency demonstrated strong adherence to the provision, which is aimed at expanding economic participation among groups that have historically faced barriers in accessing public procurement opportunities.
The second award recognised TARURA Tanga’s performance in contract management, with PPRA citing the agency’s efficiency in overseeing procurement processes and ensuring the timely execution of contracts.
The recognition comes as public institutions face increasing scrutiny over transparency, value for money and compliance in the use of public funds.
Speaking after receiving the awards, TARURA Tanga officials attributed the achievement to teamwork, adherence to procurement regulations and a commitment to accountability in managing public resources.
The awards are expected to boost the agency’s profile as it continues to oversee road infrastructure projects across the region, where improved procurement practices are increasingly viewed as critical to timely project delivery and service quality.
The annual PPRA conference brings together procurement practitioners, government institutions and development stakeholders to assess performance, share best practices and discuss reforms aimed at strengthening public procurement systems in Tanzania.
