Tanzania Electric Supply Company Limited (TANESCO) has challenged its legal team to strengthen professional ethics, provide timely legal guidance and protect the interests of the power utility as it continues to improve service delivery and expand its operations.
TANESCO Managing Director Lazaro Twange issued the call during the opening of the TANESCO Lawyers’ Forum in Mwanza, bringing together legal officers from the company’s headquarters, regional offices and subsidiary companies to discuss legal challenges, share experiences and enhance professional capacity.
Mr Twange said effective legal support remains critical in helping the company make sound decisions, minimise avoidable disputes and ensure that its activities comply with laws and regulations.
“Timely legal advice has helped TANESCO make informed decisions and prevent disputes that could have been avoided at an early stage,” he said.
He urged lawyers to maintain high professional standards, uphold confidentiality and ensure that their legal opinions contribute to the company’s efficiency and long-term interests.
“Protecting the institution starts with observing professional ethics, safeguarding work-related information and ensuring that every legal opinion provided supports TANESCO’s objectives,” Mr Twange said.
The forum, which started on July 28, 2026, is part of TANESCO’s efforts to strengthen internal capacity and improve coordination among its legal experts as the energy sector continues to face changing regulatory and operational demands.
TANESCO Director of Legal Services Advocate Sundi Mahalu said the department would continue ensuring that the company’s operations are guided by legal frameworks, good governance principles and compliance requirements.
“The forum provides an opportunity for learning, sharing experiences and strengthening our professional capacity so that we can continue delivering quality legal services that support TANESCO’s performance,” Advocate Mahalu said.
The three-day meeting is expected to contribute to stronger legal management systems, improved decision-making processes and enhanced protection of TANESCO’s interests as the company implements projects aimed at increasing access to reliable electricity across the country.
