Defending champions Singida Black Stars (Singida BS) have officially confirmed their participation in the 2026 CECAFA Kagame Cup, with the Tanzanian club set to return to Kigali, Rwanda, from July 24 to defend the title they won last season.

The club’s confirmation follows the receipt of an official invitation from the organisers and the conclusion of discussions regarding the outstanding prize money from last year’s tournament triumph.

Singida BS spokesperson Hussein Massanza said on July 8, 2026, that the club was the last among the 12 participating teams to confirm its place in the regional competition after waiting for clarity on the payment of the championship prize and assessing its preparations for the new Mainland Tanzania Premier League season.

Following consultations between the club’s management and technical bench, Singida BS agreed to participate, with the tournament also expected to serve as an important part of the team’s preparations for the upcoming domestic season.

“As defending champions, the club believes it is important to return and fight for the title while representing Tanzania in this East and Central African regional competition,” Massanza said.

He added that Singida BS had reached an agreement with the organisers regarding payment of the $30,000 prize money earned after winning last year’s tournament, expressing confidence that the commitment would be honoured on time.

Massanza said the club would enter the competition with a clear ambition of retaining the trophy and continuing to promote Tanzania’s football reputation across the region.

He also thanked the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) for its cooperation and wished the organisers success as they finalise preparations for the tournament.
