Prime Minister of the United Republic of Tanzania, Mwigulu Nchemba, has arrived in Paris, France, where he is representing President Samia Suluhu Hassan at the World Kiswahili Day celebrations being held at the UNESCO Headquarters on July 6, 2026.
Upon arrival, the Prime Minister was received by the Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Thabit Kombo, together with Tanzania’s Ambassador to France, Saidi Yakubu, and senior officials from the Embassy of Tanzania in Paris.
The international celebration, hosted under the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), brings together government leaders, diplomats, scholars, and cultural stakeholders from different countries to celebrate and promote the Kiswahili language as a global language of communication and cultural identity.
Tanzania’s participation in the event underscores its continued leadership in the promotion of Kiswahili, a language that has grown beyond national borders to become one of Africa’s most widely spoken and influential languages.
The government has consistently championed Kiswahili as a tool for unity, education, diplomacy, and socio-economic development, while also promoting its use in international forums.
During the celebrations, Tanzania is expected to highlight key achievements in advancing Kiswahili globally, including efforts to strengthen its teaching, research, and use in international communication platforms.
The World Kiswahili Day commemoration at UNESCO also reflects the increasing global recognition of Kiswahili, as more countries and institutions embrace the language in academic, cultural, and diplomatic engagements.
