The Muhimbili National Hospital (MNH), in collaboration with pharmaceutical company Mega We Care, is set to provide hepatitis screening services to members of the public as part of activities marking World Hepatitis Day on July 28, 2026.
The health camp, scheduled to take place at the Muhimbili Sokoine Drive Medical Centre (MNHSDMC) opposite the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) station in Dar es Salaam, aims to improve access to hepatitis testing while creating greater awareness on prevention, early diagnosis and treatment of the disease.
The initiative is expected to benefit members of the community by providing an opportunity to understand their health status and seek medical advice on hepatitis management.
Health officials have continued to emphasise the importance of early screening, saying timely detection can improve treatment outcomes and help reduce the spread of the disease.
As part of the partnership, Mega We Care has provided medicines and other medical supplies to support services offered during the screening camp, demonstrating the contribution of private sector players in supporting public health initiatives.
Mega We Care Information Officer, Mr Mengi Ntasimba, said the company’s participation reflects its commitment to supporting communities through healthcare interventions.
“We believe in giving back to society by supporting initiatives that help communities access essential health services,” he said.
World Hepatitis Day, observed annually on July 28, is dedicated to increasing public awareness about hepatitis, promoting prevention measures and encouraging people to seek timely testing and treatment.
MNH said the screening campaign is part of broader efforts to strengthen public awareness and encourage citizens to take proactive steps in protecting their health through regular medical check-ups.
